Anyone who knows me a little-and this might be a problem-is aware of my penchant for cheesy, ridiculous and melodramatic movies from the eighties and nineties.  I am somewhat shocked that I hadn’t seen this movie until recently as I’m in love with it down to the cheesy tagline: “Whatever Ivy wants, Ivy gets”. I’m going to try not to do a tavi-esque frame by frame deconstruction of Drew Barrymore’s outfits, but it’s hard. I am obsessed with this bracelet from the opening scene though:

I would give it a solid 7.5/10.

Sorta in love with the to be adored lookbook. Can it be summer already?  More dreamy goodness this way.

And yes, I am well aware that I am that absentee blogger who went out for pack of smokes and (almost) never returned.

Last Friday I tweeted that I was headed to the American Apparel warehouse sale in Toronto. I was slightly hesitant about going as I had heard rumors of long lines, damaged merchandise, and an overarching theme of  general insanity. But hey, these might be collectors items someday right? Who knows when AA’s last leg is going to give out. I also paid about 65 bucks for everything below; so there’s that…

Yes, I am in fact aware that it is no longer summer.

All in all, I would say it was a modest success–except for those lace shorts, nothing modest about those.

I am really digging the textures in Bodkin’s Autumn 2011 collection. I am also steadily trying to compile a the superpost with my favourites from NYFW, stay tuned!

This is me taking advantage of my last opportunity to wear this sheer skirt before winter comes and I can’t even step outside without being met by a foot of snow and I have to wear a thousand layers for some semblance of warmth.  I’m not bitter; I swear. More pictures after the jump.

To deal with the stress of my impending return to school, I decided to make cinnamon knots. The original recipe made about a zillion knots, so I halved it.  After making more cinnamon knots than any human being could possibly want, I still had tons more dough left. So I rolled it out and made these mini cinnamon buns. I used generic store-bought icing because I was out of cream cheese, but I’ve also included my favourite cream cheese icing that would have made these taste even better (an almost impossible feat).

Cinnamon Rolls

Ingredients:

• 1 1/3 cups of water
• 1/3 cup of granulated sugar
• 1/3 cup of cooking oil
• 1/8 tsp salt
• 1 cup of all purpose flour
• 1 1/2 tbsp of yeast
• 2 large eggs
• 3 3/4 cups all purpose flour

Coating:

• 1 1/3 tbsp of ground cinnamon
• 1 1/2 cups of granulated sugar
• 1/2 cup of butter (melted)

Directions:

Heat the first 4 ingredients in a large saucepan stirring it until the sugar is dissolved.
Note* It should be very warm but you should be able to hold your hand to the side of the pan.
Stir the first amount of flour with the yeast in a medium bowl.
Add this to the warm mixture and stir!
Beat the eggs in a small bowl and then stir it into the batter in the saucepan.
Add enough of the remaining flour until mixture pulls away from the sides.
Place in a greased bowl turning over once to grease the top.
Cover the bowl with waxed paper and a tea towel and let the dough sit until doubled in bulk. (1 hour)

Preheat oven to 350 degrees and line baking sheets with wax paper.
Punch dough down.
Divide dough into 4 sections and on a floured surface roll out each section until they are about a 1/4 inch thick.
Combine sugar and cinnamon.
Melt the butter and coat the top of dough with butter.
Sprinkle with cinnamon and sugar mixture.
Roll dough tightly and cut into inch thick sections.
Place rolls on baking sheet (about an inch apart) and bake in the oven for 12-15 minutes.

Cream Cheese Icing

• 1 (3 ounce) package cream cheese, softened
• 1/4 cup butter, softened
• 1 1/2 cups confectioners’ sugar
• 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
• 1/8 teaspoon salt

Beat together cream cheese, 1/4 cup butter, confectioners’ sugar, vanilla extract and salt. Spread on warm rolls.
